Scary Movies and Roof Rattling

My sister was diagnosed with schizophrenia when I was about 8 years old. In order to pay for the medical/mental help she needed, Dad worked 3 jobs and Mom worked 2. I was one of the original latch key kids.

Dad was stationed at Millington for a tour of Instructor's duty, worked at the enlisted men's club on base as a bartender and managed a pizza hut on weekends. I would often go with them to pizza hut. At that time, they still had bars and bar stools in the Pizza Hut. I would get a… Continue

Can Your Daddy Come Out to Play?

We lived in Rhode Island for a year when I was six. That was when/where Dad made it official and adopted me. We lived in a one bedroom trailer. One of those silver ones. When I asked my mom where I was going to sleep, she said, "In the closet in the kitchen." And sure enough, there was a closet with sliding doors in the kitchen. When you opened the doors, there were several side by side drawers with a countertop, and then another shelf above that. The drawers were perfect as my dresser but the… Continue

Inspirations

I saw this video over on Vimeo.  It is a computer animated short with beautiful details, reflections, lighting, etc.  It needs to be watched more than once to catch all the interesting elements.https://vimeo.com/36296951

Let Me Tell You About My Dad

So, let me tell you about my dad.

My mom was married, had 3 children. I was the third. Unfortunately, it was not a match made in heaven and when I was about nine months old, she gathered the courage, or her sense of survival kicked in, something - but she packed up her kids and her stuff and left Buffalo to return home to Corpus Christie. A few years of struggling, socializing and...

Music Collabs and Live Shows

I lose the power of speech temporarily from some of these.

I adore acoustic performances and collabs between friends. Some bands have become standard collaborators and it gets old quickly (Coldplay anyone? I love coldplay but). Nearly all hiphop and rap artists sample music but that's a formula for the craft and I enjoy it as another Flavor of music.

When friends come together because they admire each other's talent, it's always apparent in the…

a scribbler with no words

Life is a funny thing. Only sometimes, it doesn't make us laugh. For those of you who have known me for more than a minute, you know that my dad has always been my hero. (Heck- how can you not love a guy in a uniform with Toblerone in his pockets?) Anyway, I lost my dad unexpectedly yesterday. I don't have it in me to write about it at this moment so here's a link of one of my favorite memories. …

IMPORTANT PSA FOR SYD REGARDING THE BDAY VIDEO

Uh Syd, you may have dropped the F bomb once or twice in the video.   So if you are watching this with any family members who you don't want to subject to that kind of language please send them from the room.... or put on a set of head phones.

That is all.

My Latest Obsession

http://youtu.be/8UVNT4wvIGYHas anyone else seen Gotye's new video of the song "Somebody I Used To Know"?  I am obsessed with it.  I LOVE the song and the video is mesmerizing to me.  Maybe it's his gorgeous eyes, or the background art or maybe there is a subliminal message making me play it over an over.  When I first heard the song on the radio I thought it was Sting.  I love him too. If you haven't seen it you should check it out.  …

The Possibilities

When I was teaching in the middle school computer lab, I kept the kids connected to MIT's web where students and profs share current research and developments. I introduced my youngest to it, and he's kept up. Some perspective on the next generation is apparent in that he doesn't find THIS development (below) quite as exciting as I do. To him, it's just "ordinary".  I LOVE these KIDS!

This current development by students at University of Pennsylvania,…

I have nothing in my way so why do i stay so far away from you,

i lost your scent in this cold air,

for forgot your skin was so fair,

how do i get over you,

the time we had has long since gone,

i can no longer feel a thing,

theres no more bliss for me here,

how do i get rid of this mortal fear,

that is strangling me…

The slow death of art at the Ark

...has come to an end.

With sadness I have witnessed art and originality wither away as attention spans shortened to where a five year old would say "Dude! Focus, will ya?" Symptoms include the 2 Minute Philosopher, the 1 Minute challenge, the 30 in 30, the 5x5... notice a trend? Before long we're down to vids of 10 seconds. TLDW. I have been guilty of indulging the quick fix as well.

Well no more. I am happy and relieved to see a true artist do what he does best.…

Dog Sleds and Pay Backs

Pyper's Blog - 2012 Episode 2

It's January 31 and it was 64 degrees and sunny today. Proof that buying a bigger car circumvented a 5th straight year of crappy Kansas Winter. I know. Those of you who live to the North think I'm a whiner. But this Texas girl needs a sweater when it falls below 75 and the sun goes down. I am what I am.

Now the big…
