I remember the first time I experienced an out of body experience... it was very intense to say the least.

I really enjoyed watching parts of the movie. I am not at all familiar with it.

...should you chant for something like that? lol... did she only like the movie because of the chant? yeah, always been a fan of lotus flowers.

sad ending. chanting for good things while you do bad seems kinda ironic.

enjoyed much.

A VERY interesting day indeed. I have not seen the film but I will now, even with all the spoilers.
I was 5 or 6 years old when I had my first lucid dream wherein I promptly manifested a mansion made out of candy. I had quite a few "out of body" experiences leading up to and during puberty to the point where it became scary. It felt like I lost control somewhere along the way. I would just close my eyes and *woosh*, I'd feel like I was being dragged off the bed by my feet. I found that sleeping on my side or at least with a limb crossed, deterred the "slipping". The out of body dreams and the lucid dreams (where I knew I was dreaming and could control it) seemed like very different animals to me. I still have one or the other very occasionally.
This was so very enjoyable, Geoff. Thank you. I need to chant again.

I watched this film and enjoyed it. Many excellent scenes - The hotel room drunken madness comes to mind - public restroom - bar - mother's house.
He was like their child.
Dreams - I've never been in control of them - always terror!
Chanting for Cadillacs and being a jerk about Japanese makes me chuckle.

Lima, I can't really decide what my friend thought about the movie. It was kind of a weird way to introduce me to her cult. They believe that even chanting for selfish ends will help you grow, and eventually you'll chant for peace and human betterment.

Blanch (Amy?): Sorry about the spoilers--I've kinda decided they don't matter so much in movies that reward repeated viewings. This was an experiment in blending two story-lines, the movie and a little bit of autobiography. I'm working on something else that blends a movie, a short story, and some personal material.

Interesting that you eventually found your OBEs frightening. I always found them unnerving at a point, but never had any trouble waking myself up. I don't think OBEs and lucid dreams are exactly the same, but some people say the same regions of the brain are involved.

Thank you, Michael.

I really like the movie, flop. Did you notice the very long crossfades between some of the scenes? It feels to me like this movie was made with hand tools instead of machines. Yes, I know that's crazy.

@ Geoff- no-no-no ! If not for your intriguing spoilers I wouldn't even be aware of the film.
,..and I really liked the way you had us simultaneously walking down parallel paths. I got goosebumps 4 or 5 times.
Also : You may absolutely call me Amy,...or blanch or blanche or hey-you, even.

I think the 70s really were a golden age of film. By the time I started attending college in the mid-70s, my film classes were already treating films of the early 70s (just five years old or less) as classics of the same standing as Citizen Kane and Casablanca. There was a keen awareness that something monumental was happening in the art of cinema even as it was happening.

And yet... somehow I managed to miss The Last Detail. I'll be going out of my way to find it now. (That means I'll be driving to the library later in the week.)
