The Ark

Whatever floats your boat...

Tomorrow is the big day, for around 8 am I go pick up Mr.Kitten from the Vet and bring him back home to live with me.

Mr. Kitten was found last week crying outside, all skinny and scrawny, full of fleas and worms…. About 6 weeks old, gray tabby with white patches.

I have been thinking for a while about getting another cat, a companion for Dinah… I feel really bad when I have to leave for the weekend and she is home alone. She is still in her playful stage and I am really hoping that this will work out.

I guess we will soon see.

Anyway, I am at a standstill with names…

This is what I have thought of so far, let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions.

I like Alistaire. Then on those occasions when you bastardize his name out of cuteness, he will become "Alley Cat." Which he was in his humble beginnings.

I hope you and Dinah enjoy your new best friend, Lima. Be prepared to be awakened by middle-of-the-night kitten rompings.

NJ, Thanks. I am hoping dinah enjoys him as well... I am thinking at such a young age that perhaps her mother instincts will kick in and she will be nurturing.

Christine, No outside kitty, don't live in an area where it is safe to let them go out...perhaps soon!

Hard to think of a name without a picture of the kitten to look at...

Samuel Johnson named one of his cats Hodge. From Boswell's Life of Johnson:

Nor would it be just, under this head, to omit the fondness which he showed for animals which he had taken under his protection. I never shall forget the indulgence with which he treated Hodge, his cat: for whom he himself used to go out and buy oysters, lest the servants having that trouble should take a dislike to the poor creature. I am, unluckily, one of those who have an antipathy to a cat, so that I am uneasy when in the room with one; and I own, I frequently suffered a good deal from the presence of this same Hodge. I recollect him one day scrambling up Dr. Johnson's breast, apparently with much satisfaction, while my friend smiling and half-whistling, rubbed down his back, and pulled him by the tail; and when I observed he was a fine cat, saying, 'Why yes, Sir, but I have had cats whom I liked better than this;' and then as if perceiving Hodge to be out of countenance, adding, 'but he is a very fine cat, a very fine cat indeed.'

I will post pictures here soon enough, getting the house kitten proof and then off to pick the little baby up.

BlancheNoE, I was actually thinking of Sonar earlier, but now I have Mash on my head. =)

I think I have the name...

Jasper.

The name means "spotted or speckled stone" found in all colors including grey and white, Jasper is one of the birth stones listed for the Sun Sign of Virgo. It is also the Mystical birthstone for the month of October...

Jasper is a crystalline variety of quartz that contains up to 20% foreign material. This is what determines the stone’s multicolor, striped, or spotted appearance. Jasper was highly valued in ancient times, not only for its beauty, but also for the reputed magical and medicinal properties. In France jasper ornaments date back two-millennia, Babylonians used in for seals twelve-hundred years ago, and in India it has been used for jewelry and building for centuries.

LOL at Justanotherusername. That thought came to my mind, too.

I just watched your slideshow, Lima. He is absolutely adorable, and he's going to grow up to be one gorgeous cat. Name him well.
