Doh!! Goodbye FREE Ning Sites...

FYI- Ning announced lay-offs today and that they'd also be discontinuing free accounts.

It doesn't effect The Ark since I pay for it but I know that many of you began storing your videos on your own "Ninglets" last year and embedded them here to save us bandwidth. I'm not sure when this will take effect but I hope it doesn't effect you too adversely.

If you have a Ninglet and you store your vids there, make sure you have copies of those vids saved to your own computer so you don't lose them.

Oy. Hey, is there a way to download from ning?,...Chig ?,....I like ning and all, but if I'm gonna' pay to store my vids I'll take Vimeo for 60.00 a year, Alex. Actually, they are free for standard service ,..I think you get 500 megabytes a week,..and the 60.00 a year is a step up and you get all sorts of tracking info on your vids. NOW,... I *WOULD* pay to keep the Ark afloat. Syd, please keep us posted if it comes to that. I suspect they'll be raising the standard rates and when they do, I want you to come to us,...'kay ?

If Ning raises the premium, I might consider allowing for anyone who wishes to "adopt" a month. I think Sarah had that idea way back, but I'm good for the time being. Thanks!

Yikes! I'm using a Ninglet to store my pet videos for the animal shelter. If it's not too expensive to continue it, I would pay for it, but thanks, Blanche, for the Vimeo info just in case.

And I have been willing to help pay for the Ark since the very beginning. Just let us know.

By the way, Syd, your link to the TechCrunch article isn't working. I would like to read it.

hmmmm I guess for the people like me who simply use the ninglets as a way to embed vids onto the ark wont be much of a problem the dreaded "youtube" works just as well, its just not as private LOL. The internet is becoming a business how far I wonder will the cold grips of wealth reach.
