The Ark

Whatever floats your boat...

This is an older video of mine. Fresh Pond used to supply blocks of ice that were transported to New Orleans and Latin America, even India. Today it's the city reservoir.

No one knows the exact story of the bench on the hillside overlooking Fresh Pond. (Some people undoubtedly know, but no one is talking.) In broad outline, a woman who was having health problems used to enjoy sitting on that hillside. The marble bench was donated with some prose from "Orlando" by Virginia Woolf carved into it.

My dogs would die of envy over the first part of that video. The last half reminds me of those meditative videos they would play at the end of CBS Sunday Morning that made me envy the photographer. So beautiful....

Now THAT is a dog's dog park. All the elements I love in a Halloween tale. It starts out all light and innocence then moves to the ghostly editing between the lone white pooch and the misty hillside and trees that portend something other than worldly. Thanks for digging that one up, Geoff. I quite enjoyed it.

It's a great place for dogs, Chig. One of the few places in Cambridge where they are invited to run around without leashes. BlancheNoE, the mist is actually pollen from the trees (I think). It was pretty awesome to watch. Thanks, TD and Marie. The park is mostly a fairly narrow doughnut of green around a reservoir (the dog pond is located between the park and a municipal golf course) with busy streets on all sides.

Very beautiful, Geoff. I read about the mysterious appearance of this bench in a news story several years ago. I'm glad to hear it's still there, and that its origin is still a mystery.
