Whatever floats your boat...

Today I was privileged to see the Sculpture, Rubber Duck by Florentijn Hofman.

Florentijn Hofman is a 37-year-old Dutch artist known for large-scale urban installations.

Rubber Duck is quite a world traveller, having been seen in Holland, France, Brazil, Japan, New Zealand, Belguim, Australia, China, and Azerbaijan. It made its first American appearance last fall in Pittsburgh. This is it's first East coast appearance.

The sculpture, made from PVC and kept inflated by a fan on its supporting barge, is just inches under 40 feet tall. Today is the last day it is on display at the Chrysler Museum of Art's front entrance.  I am not sure where it is heading next.

I was able to capture this shot using a wide angle lens, which allows you to be right up on the subject without having to back away to get the entire subject in frame.  I edited the picture using lightroom to give it more of an HDR effect and more clarity.

These are beautiful. I can't decide which photo I like best.

When I first opened your blog, I was seeing only the photo and none of the text below it. I kept staring at it, trying to decide whether it was real or a PhotoShop trick. I find it oddly satisfying to learn that it's real. I'm glad you were there to make these photos.

Now for the duck jokes. I'll leave that for the master, BlancheNoE.

NJ, Thank you. It's definitely something you have to see for yourself as opposed to pictures. :). I had several friend think it was photoshopped.

So very surreal.   Did it feel like that in person, or is it just the photos.

I am also grateful you really meant duck.   It would have been a whole other vibe if this guy sold out and made a giant trojan add. :-P

It was like that in person.  was really cool feeling as you are walking towards it and you are like 100 feet away and you can see it through the trees on the way...  I kinda felt bad that I did not get a shot head on.

Those are fantastic shots Lima !

I've seen a lot of 'em and I like these the best of any. The blue in the first one reminds me of my bathtub as a toddler and the peek-a-boo style of the second is delightfully startling. So well done.
