Whatever floats your boat...

HELP !,..I need somebody, HELP,..not just anybody,...

My husband wants to buy me a new digital video camera and I really need one. My old analog Sony is finally, after 15 years, sputtering out. I always hate to retire old equipment because the saying,
" They don't make 'em like they used to. ", is so very true.
I need something that is very Mac friendly. I don't want to have to buy more software or hardware to use it. I want to be able to plug it in and import directly into imovie without having to convert and de-interlace before importing for quality. I want fairly awesome zoom capability and decent sound. I want excellent picture quality and low-light capability. Is there such an animal for less than the price of a used car ?

So,....you Mac users out there, what are you using ? What do you like or what don't you like about the camera you're using ? What would you recommend ?

Your guidance is greatly appreciated.

@ photo2010- Thanks Kevin,..and yeah,...they're like old friends, aren't they ?,....can't just throw 'em in the trash or turn 'em in for store credit. You can do that with human relatives maybe,...but not old friends. *hug*

I am actually rather astounded to learn that all these great videos you've been making in recent years were done on analog tape. I never, ever would have guessed it!

Shit, my cam's at school so I don't have the specs, but it's a Sony and it's digital. I'm never going back to mini-tapes again. I just plug in and grab the file instead of having to rewind the tape and play it into the feed. Saves me lots of time.

@ Ruth- It's an international on-line store headquartered Thailand. You only get $2.50 U.S. for a mother in-law but you can get up to 10 bucks for a decent looking teenage cousin (male or female).
@ Nature- Oh I think you'll see the difference when I do my side by side comparison video.
@ Syd- Worry not,..I have been shown the way and it is mini-tapeless but thank you very kindly.

I don't know why this didn't occur to me before, but have you looked at the newest iPod Touch (4th generation)? It shoots HD video and you can edit right on the iPod with iMovie (a $4.99 app). 8GB, 32GB or 64GB flash hard drives. Import/export files through WiFi, 100% compatible with your Mac OS 10.5.8 or Windows XP SP3 or better. It's not a phone, but it's a video-phone via email addresses with its free FaceTime app. It'll be my next camera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4wG1f_oc9U
