DOUGLAS VC-118A (DC-6) LIFTMASTER
With the election of John F. Kennedy and the need to frequently fly to Hyannisport, Massachusetts with its short runway, the Air Force had to go back to a prop plane. The Douglas fit the bill well and stayed on with the Johnson administration to fly L.B.J. to his Texas ranch. It wasn't exclusively used for the President, although it was the only one of three they had at the time on which the president flew. I'm thinking it was not painted up to Jackie Kennedy style at the time... I think that was done to the SAM 26000. (You guys will have to seek that one out in Dayton and report back.) My guess is that at a later point someone painted the VC-118A to match the SAM 26000.
