The Ark

Whatever floats your boat...

How confident are you with the "VIMEO-solution" so far?

I am uploading two videos right now for the Ark. They have different sizes, the smaller needs 1 hour to process and the bigger needs already 1 hour to upload. I think YouTube is much faster despite that they have a multitude of uploads and nowadays also can display HQ-videos.

I have the impression, VIMEO wants me to use their chargeable upgrade to get normal upload and processing time.

What is the advantage of using Vimeo embeds instead of free YT embeds?

Thanks for a little feedback :)

P.S. What's the thumbnail algorithm on Vimeo?

The free account puts your encode on hold for an hour. The plus version gets to it right away. The quality however is superb so I can wait ;-)

I don't see any reason at all why people couldn't do either YT or Vimeo. We do have a group on Vimeo but you could still be in that group and embed here from YT instead, except for when you're involved in a collab which would probably involve our resident artist from the dark side (Peter) in which case quality would be a HUGE factor,...and yeah, YT is faster.

Yeah, either one's fine. Vimeo's got a new embedder, so be sure and use the old embedder (the option to use the old one is linked at the top of the new embed code). They're calling the new one a "universal" code, but it doesn't work here.

I find Youtube comes with baggage. Vimeo doesn't. Plus, I am just happy to have one person watch my vids. tap... tap... tap.... I'm still waiting for one person to watch my vids.

Howdy OG. I have uploaded several videos to an account I opened at Vimeo for my local animal shelter. What I've been doing is this: After I finish the video at home, I upload it to MediaFire. Then the next day when I'm on my work break, I download the video to my desktop and then upload to Vimeo. I'm "in line" for an hour, as you say, but I'm not waiting for it. I'm doing my work. By the time I have another break, it's all done. If you have a work computer, that's one way to make the waiting painless.

P.S. Most of us folks at the Ark are refugees from LiveVideo. The one hour we have to wait for uploads at Vimeo is almost nothing compared to the wait of hours and hours (sometimes even a couple days) that users were experiencing at that site before our exodus.

Yesterday I watched your Isar River video at the Vimeo site. I am less sensitive than many people to quality issues, but even I could see that it looked fresher and clearer than stuff looks on YouTube.

I love Vimeo. It's $60 a year for the upgrade. I'll have one less double chocolate chip frappuccino a month and will break even. I like not waiting and I like the extra privacy options and I love the stability and overall quality of the site. Big fan here.

Aye, Vimeo takes an eternity to encode at times - but the quality o' the picture be far greater than YouTube without the bufferin' headache just to watch in HD - plus ye don't have umpteen annoying, immature little scurvy brats kids griefin' yer vids just because they know how to log in from daddy's laptop!
