exorcising my emoticon demons (aka "why the OGC emoticon is an essential part of any post because it so adequately expresses deep human emotion")

let me start by making it very clear that i have nothing against most people who use emoticons......i understand that sometimes a simple "i'm really bummed out today" is more easily expressed by a little blue orb with giant sad eyes......

well, sort of.....

what i can't seem to get a handle on is the gargantuan library of these annoying little fuckers (search google images) that is available to every idiot that, thinking they're "soooo adorable", feels the need to use at least seven of them in everything they post online......and i don't mean randomly or even strategically placed amongst their ramblings, but thrown together at the bottom like some secret code just to show those 'in the know" how truly witty, badass, and awesome they are.......go to any forum on imdb and you'll see what i'm going on about......

perhaps even worse are the animated ones.......you all have seen them......they shoot at each other, wave redneck flags (as i like to call them), flash peace signs, drink beer, and basically piss me off to no end.......they're distracting and a waste of space......it's hard to focus on writing a coherent post when a yellow ball with big red sunglasses is bouncing back and forth across my screen.......ugh.

the only saving grace is that hardly anyone uses the talking ones anymore......i remember when those clever little wastes of time first began popping up in my email.......the voices they used were the stuff children's nightmares are made of......my 3 year old daughter plugs her ears every time one of their ads shows up in a page's sidebar.......

it almost makes me long for the days when people just got creative with their keyboards to express feelings that mere words could not.......

uh oh does this mean you dnt wanna be friends? I tend to use a wide array of things to express my emotions. Just tell me its ok lets get it over with.. sent ya a request by the way .. 8-)
