Whatever floats your boat...

Our honey bee colony is at about 50,000, and they're filling the second super with brood and honey, so I'm adding a third super.

Really enjoyed seeing what was happening. And ... noticed that you have anaphylactic + shock in your tags. Hun? Are you allergic? If so: brave man. Nuts! But brave. All my siblings are allergic. I don't know if I am as I've never been stung, but even mouche noires give me a bad reaction. Probably... *shudders*

Hey, you guys. The cloud giant isn't replacing the pollen patty and he forgot his smoker... Think he needs a little lesson in hospitality?

These little vlogs make it look so easy to raise bees. Why are we facing a crisis in their population if it is straightforward to raise them domestically? You'd think governments could just pay a stipend to active bee-keepers. (Obviously I must be missing a big piece of the picture here.)

Incredible. I gotta show my son when he gets home. We're allergic, so we will learn from watching You.

Thank you, one and all!

@Marie: No, I'm not allergic, but facing 50,000 little stingers makes me think about it.  I have a theory that beekeepers are less likely to be stung than the average flower-sniffer, since we have a lot of protection in place.

@Geoff: So far, the girls have ignored me.  Off-camera, I actually open the hive without protection from time to time just to take a quick look at their progress.  I haven't been stung yet!  And yes, it's very easy to raise bees.  They do 99% of the work.  I'm already preparing a government grant application to increase my effort to 20-40 hives next year.

@TG: This is a fascinating activity.  I'm learning as I go through this first year with my bees, and the complexity and order of honey bees is mind-blowing.  Look out; your son may want to start his own hive!  And I promise: if I ever get stung, I'll put it on video so you might know what to expect.

These are awesome!!  Jim, are you posting these anywhere else besides Vimeo?

Comment by AnnelidaFilms on June 12, 2013 at 10:19pm

Syd - YOU'RE awesome!  And thanks.  Well, they're on YouTube.  And my own little weird website.  I just shot another update today, but I won't have it edited for another week or so.  Stay tuned...

I posted links to the series on VLOGGERHEADS.

Hope that's okay!

That's fine, Syd.  To tell you the truth, Vloggerheads overwhelms me.  I have an account there and lurk often for their / your fascinating vids, but not being much a spontaneous vlogger myself, I feel my content is usually out of place.  Thank you for sharing my vids; I always trust your judgement.

Uh oh, goddess help you if you trust my judgment

but I think you're safe for now...

Have I told you lately that you're my hero ?

250000 little pollinators dead on a WalMart parking lot and they're still debating whether it was a natural happening or the 12 gallons of poison they spread the trees with 2 days prior *face-palm*.

Okay, to sign out on a happy note, i SOOO envy your future bounties from all of your hard work.

YUMmmmm.
