Whatever floats your boat...

Tara from Geoffo on Vimeo.

"Tara" is the name of the song by Roxy Music.

This is just footage I was playing with for a larger project, not in an entirely specific way. I wanted to see what effects I got if I used gifs set to transparent instead of jpegs in certain situations--stuff like that.

The fire was a forest fire in Boulder shot with a time lapse camera. I pushed the color away from orange towards red but I think there are a few unaltered seconds in there and they are spectacular.

The clouds are all from Gustave Dore illustrations. He was so serious about the quality of his prints that he often included the signature of his platemaker along with his own. Take a look sometime.

I'm getting into using the same bits or moves over and over again with just one change. I've done that with video footage in the past but black and white illustrations have real possibilities.

In video: In one of my vlogs (unposted) the conflict is between a building and the late Mayor of Cambridge. I shot a bust of the mayor from the same spot several times. The leaves of the surrounding trees cast shadows on his head and I planned to use the windy moments to suggest his agitation.

When I took the footage into iMovie I discovered I could speed up the footage, slow it down, run it backwards, and layer shot over shot. Since the statue and the camera never moved the effect was almost naturalistic but full of exaggerated expressiveness.

I still haven't figured out how to do layers - is it all long transitions? Clouds and movement are awesome.
