Pen and I finally got around to watching "The Watchmen", a movie about 'sort of' super heroes in an alternate earth reality. When it came to the part where a character named Rorschach is unmasked, I turned to Pen and said " Hey ! I think that's Kelly from the original Bad News Bears ! ".
I then became re-absorbed in the movie and forgot about it.
This morning while I was getting ready for work, I yelled to Pen from the bathroom, " Hey Honey, could you please google the original Bad News Bears and tell me who played Kelly ? ",..and sure enough, it was Jackie Earle Haley. I was 11 years old when That movie came out and I had a bit of a crush on Kelly,..after all, he was the ultimate bad boy,..at least for back then. I somehow managed to miss all the other projects he's worked on since then, which I will now try to track down. I can't believe I instantly recognized him 33 years later. So here's to you Jackie, for leaving quite the lasting impression,..and if you're thinking about watching The Bad News Bears, don't settle for less than the original.
Here's a bit of info on Jackie from Wikipedia,..you gotta' love a guy who puts this much into his characters :
Jackie Earle Haley as Walter Kovacs / Rorschach: A masked vigilante who continues his vigilante activities after they are outlawed. Unlike the other five principal actors, Haley had read the comic and was keen to pursue the role when he heard he had become a favorite candidate among fans. He and fourteen friends put together his audition, where he performed scenes from the comic. Haley "almost went nuts" trying to reconcile his understanding of complex human behavior with Rorschach's moral absolutism, stating the character made him wonder if people generally just make excuses for their bad actions. Rorschach wears a mask with ink blots: motion capture markers were put on the contours of Haley's blank mask, for animators to create his ever-changing expressions. Haley found the mask "incredibly motivating for the character" because of its confining design, which heated up quickly. Small holes were made in the mask for him to see. Haley has a black belt in Kenpō, but described Rorschach's attack patterns as sloppier and more aggressive due to the character's boxing background.

I saw Watchmen recently, not knowing the background of the story, and thought it was pretty good. Interesting story you tell. :)

I have not seen Watchmen but I have seen the orginal Bad News Bears. Kelly was so bad ass he rode his motorcycle onto the baseball field and did donuts to show how misunderstood he was. I remember as a kid being shocked that he was so bold, not fearing being put on restriction er nothing.....

Jackie Earle Haley IS the ultimate bad boy. It's hard to imagine him playing anything else. He was also very good in Breaking Away. That movie had a great cast.

lol I havent seen this in ages. We recently watched the Watchmen. It kept my attention but I wish I had seen your vlog before I watched it. No matter. Thanks for the info. Interesting. Bun waves Hi.. She is busy at the moment cooling her ears in front of air conditoning vent
