The Ark

Whatever floats your boat...

ARRrrrgh.

It finally happened. Our once highly revered Mac has died. It didn't just get sick. It Keeled over before we could recover anything. Hard drive nose-dive. Caput. Dead. Zilch.

I am so very glad that I followed my intuition when we purchased it over 2 years ago and bought the extended 3 year warranty. The warranty that came with it was good for 2 years. How cute. You can expect yours to die just a couple of weeks out of warranty,..caPOOey. Have a nice day.

This obviously greatly changes my opinion of Apple products. Sure the programs are fun and easy to learn but you can find similar programs for MS. Sure the service is great, meaning you can have a tech walk you through re-booting over the phone and then you get to spend a whole day reloading all your software. Save your money. At least that way when you lose 2 years of video clips and photos you were saving for a big video project and never quite got to backing up, you will only be out that and half the cash.

We're off line until Thursday or longer.

Planned obsolescence FTL.

UPDATE :

To Apple's credit, they are sending us a 2TB back-up hard drive free of charge.

To all of our wise friends who've reminded us of our own stupidity, you're right. At our age we should have known better...BUT, we paid Apple EXTRA (bought the AppleCare plan) to not be stupid for us...

...and they dropped the ball.

They also could have offered to give us our old hard drive back *kicking self for not demanding it* AND at the Apple Bar, the "genius" told us that they would make every attempt to recover the data and if they could it would cost $99.00. which we agreed to pay,.....then when I call to register a complaint the guy tells me

" oh we don't do recovery, M'amm, as soon as the hard drives are replaced, the old ones go immediately to the factory to be erased by a big magnet..."

If you don't do recovery, don't offer to do recovery.

We are much wiser now but have lost all inspiration....for now.

The moral of the story is that if you want to be stupid RIGHT,..don't pay someone else to be stupid for you 'cause that's just stupid. Nobody else can be as stupid as you yourself can be....and back up your files.

Thanks for your comments and I truly (not being sarcastic) am glad that this blog could give a handful of people the giggles at their own similar past foibles. I'm looking forward to the day when I can read some other poor shmuck's blog about data loss and I can giggle a little and be glad it's not me that time. This is why I like string theory. Somewhere out there is another me who this DIDN'T happen to. Cool.

That sucks. In fact it sucks and blows at the same time!
