Now I can see why these leftover quilts are difficult projects. You aren't altering the pieces any further from their last cutting. I make mosaic projects from glass, stone, and metal and I rarely alter the shape of a mosaic piece. With color, size, shape, and texture to consider, there are so many ways for a piece to be wrong for a particular space in the context of the whole. It's almost an occasion to shout eureka when a piece fits perfectly.
I look forward to watching your pieces fit together.
Have you ever taken pictures of a promising arrangement so you could pull it all down and try another direction knowing you could recover the first idea? Kind of a trail of digital breadcrumbs... Or do you have the video camera set up and handy for the same purpose--and additionally to be able to track how your ideas evolve organically rather than snapshot by snapshot? (I'm talking about video-making simply as a creative aid, not for communication... Stuff you wouldn't think of posting.)
