Whatever floats your boat...

Wink from Geoffo on Vimeo.

My first slideshow. I could have handled the text a little better at the beginning: I understand that the rule of thumb is to leave enough time to read whatever is onscreen out loud twice.

Gilbert Ryle was a British philosopher. His idea--that there is really no way to distinguish between a twitch, a wink, or a mocking imitation of someone winking without further information--became kinda important in anthropology. Clifford Geertz made a useful distinction between "thick" and "thin" descriptions of cultures. Different conclusions can be drawn from the same observation, depending on the depth of understanding...

It just seemed like a natural springboard for a video.

I think about this vid fairly often as a reminder for some of my own non-vid projects - how nicely you play with a theme - and your choice of theme
One of my favs - music kicks ass
Interesting read aloud guideline

I never really thought of the wink before, until now...

I have a boss at work that winks at me all the time... It creeps me out from time to time...

I knew this guy once that every time he thought about going out and buying drugs, he would start sneezing... nobody seemed to pick up on that but me.

good vid, enjoyed.

You've done some great "slideshows" Geoff, and this is probably the best. For sure it's the most fun.

NJ, this is probably my favorite slideshow too. It hangs nicely together and I hope it gives the viewer a sense of discovery as the variations on the theme play out. Since it was a first time using PhotoToMovie software there is a bit of "what does this button do?" going on with the transitions, but some of them worked out well.

Lima, is it possible that your boss' wink is a habitual greeting he is barely conscious of? You know, like how some people do the eyebrow flash thing every time you see them, even after you've already said your hello/how are yous for the day. Your friend sneezes every time he thinks about buying drugs. I smile every time Lima posts a video. It's beyond our control.

flop and spacemonkey, the song is called "Commanche" and it's by Link Wray and the Wraymen. I've got a couple recordings of that song and I like this one best, partly because of the studio chatter at the beginning.
