*squeal* An update!!!
Laverne, what a beautiful young woman. Your theory makes perfect sense, another layer of the onion peeled back. Except .... you NJ, NatureJunkie, woman... stop mentioning my name! It was a fluke of the google! I'll never be as snoopy as you. Though, gotta say, I really can appreciate the fun in it second hand.
Really looking forward to each part of your journey!
@ Marie: Okay everyone, it wasn't Marie who solved the love-token mystery part of this. It was "anonymous."
@ Tahllulah: No, Wyeth isn't a German name. Laverne, whether or not she had a romantic attachment to young Harold, went on to marry a third-generation full-blooded German like herself. And Harold was not from New Zealand, only served there with the USNR during WWII. According to the research that "anonymous" tipped me off to, the Australian coins were extremely popular for love tokens. (Okay, I know New Zealand is a separate country, but they're both down undah.)
I don't want everybody to come to me thinking I can solve their ancient mysteries, but you, dear Tahllulah, I will email you about your photos; we'll see whatcha got. ; )
haHA. I LOVE instant gratification.
Way better than a dog tag.
still looking forward....
@ Blanche: I know, right? Research is so much easier when others do it for you.
Well, very interesting my dear sistah. I think you should have your own t.v. show. By the way.....I found a coin....on a chain. One side of the coin has an engraving of a compass and on the other side it says "The Golden Compass" check it out please! Love you!

Listen Peacenik, did you not read my comment to Tahllulah? Don't go thinking that because I'm your sister that I'm going to do your homework for you. Not in fifth grade, and not now.
You should totally do a T.V. show - How many people on T.V. today have a firm grasp of both the Dewey Decimal System and Google Search? See my point? You'd be a natural. I'll start thinking of show names - first things first though - that old ghetto blaster behind you must be returned to it's rightfull place.....The 80's :0)
