I lost my mom to cancer Oct 15th 2008. Im not even over that. My dad in April of 2008 was also diagnosed with cancer (prostate). Dad had his prostate removed and seemed to be doing well. Mom passed away. May I say right now that I hate cancer!

We are now at another scary point. My dad's psa after having his prostate removed has tripled. We are going to our 1st second opinion. We have another coming up.

Im scared!

Thank you guys! Had good news from the Doc today. He said the cancer is most likely small and that even if the radiation did not work that my dad still has a good 5 - 10 years. yay!

I'm happy I tuned in just in time for the good news update, Lori. Echoing what Deborah and NBC said, knowledge is power. If you want to fight for your dad, learn everything you can about his type of cancer and treatment options. One of the best things you can do for a family member with cancer is to be their advocate in their dealings with health care professionals. Patients are often too weak or intimidated to question things or speak up for themselves (especially patients who are older men who are used to having control).
