Whatever floats your boat...

Does anyone else live in an apartment or condo that doesn't allow pets? We moved here from a house that was in my family for almost 50 years. It was a wonderful old 3-family house. It had gotten too difficult to manage after my Dad passed away, and anyone who has rented to tenants knows what a nightmare it can be, and it often was. So..after trying to sell the house for years, we finally got a buyer. We were lucky to find a condo in a nice area for a reasonable price in a high-rise building. The downside was..no pets allowed. This is criminal! Well, we had a cat at the time, and weren't going to give him away. We also found out that the superintendent of the building had cats that he was keeping in his own condo, and the board of the building allowed it, so we had no guilt about sneaking Blackie in. It was quite the covert op getting him in without anyone seeing. Sadly, we had to have Blackie euthanized after he got kidney disease, but we had many happy years with him. We won't bring another pet in here, but I can attest to the fact that having a pet is good for your health and well being. I think that there should be a law allowing people to have a pet, especially in a home they own, which we do..and as long as no damage is caused to the property. My health was much better when we had Blackie. I've considered trying to get a doctor to write a letter that we need a cat for health reasons, (service animal), but this board would fight it, and I have to choose my battles carefully right now. Moving is also not an option. Can anyone relate to this situation?

Christine, after being here for over 10 years, gotten threatening letters from this board for things we hadn't even done..I have written letters to the board before about other matters, they went unanswered. I had to get a Senator involved to force them to put a curb-cut in for wheelchairs, required by law. This board does not care about the tenants. They tried to force a woman out who became pregnant while living here, because they also had a rule about no children, an illegal rule as it turned out. She sued them and won. Not a nice board. Thank you for your thoughts though. xox

Suze, the only advantage to condo life is that someone else shovels the snow and mows the lawn..not much of an advantage. Unfortunately private homes around here are ridiculously expensive. If I could, I'd be out of here and not look back.
