We've been ad free since the boys left for university. =-) Radio: CBC is ad free. No cable, no satellite, no HULU, no Netflicks, etc... But it's amazing how often advertising comes up in conversation.

I remember the beautiful video you did of Memorial Hall.

LOL Your title asides remind me of an old couple where one is telling a story and ignoring the other who mutters along adding details.

Frank did have a way with words.

You don't do many vlogs Geoff, but they are always interesting and insightful. Your 'art' videos - inspired.

Marie, you are undoubtedly doing your psyche all kinds of good by avoiding what advertising you can. Of course, just existing exposes us to a lot of ads--I mean unless you sublet the unabomber's shack. I wince a little inside when somebody talks about how cute or cool an advertisement is but it feels hoity-toity to make a point of what commercialism is doing to us. Some of the best minds and biggest talents alive are doing work you just know they privately despise.

I like the idea of subtitles as the kibitzing half of an old married couple. I'm never satisfied with my vlogs but doing a second take usually feels like a lot of trouble for slight improvement. So I throw in the bits I forgot to mention. It adds a little texture too. While I was recording this I was sure I was speaking well but when I played it back I found I was talking too fast at many points... And I've been doing this for five years.

I know many people prefer face vlogs--often that's exactly what I want to watch--but I like working with images and footage and trying stuff out over and over again. Does tlwa stand for "too long, watched anyway"?

Hello, Amy:

Memorial Hall is a gorgeous monstrosity. And it offers endless things to look at and mull over. Who is St. John Chrystostom anyway? (Well I know now, but only because his head is popping out of the Memorial Hall facade.) Memorial Hall is a fireside with marshmallows on sticks and ghost stories while the Seagram Building in New York is central heating.
