I sorta feel treating people as investors/collaborators can be more effective than a straightforward creator-to-audience relationship. I paged through some Kickstarter campaigns and noticed quite a number of people donating more than the value of the end product, whatever it is.

For something like this project I can imagine a core group ponying up more than $12 because they feel the topic is important. (Equally, I can imagine folks who would pay $5 because this looks entertaining, but who wouldn't want to pay more than a first run feature...)
