Whatever floats your boat...

I'm Technically Challenged and Need Help!

I always play the "Day You Were Born" video for my kids on their birthday, which is tomorrow (their 14th), and we laugh about what screamers they were, how unrecognizable I was, and we all go "Awwwwwwww" when the scenes of 4-yr old Eric holding them and expertly feeding them a bottle and/or locating the pacifier flash on the screen.

Yes, I had them when I was 12 :-)

It's on one of those full-size VHS cassettes and I keep a VCR solely for the purpose of watching this annual video.

How can I get it this to my computer? Can I somehow get it to my video camera, THEN to my computer? Short of setting up the camera to tape the video as it is playing, I don't know how to accomplish this.

I know I can pay the guy down in the valley to do it for $20, but with all the cables and equipment I have laying around here, certainly there is SOME way I can accomplish this myself!!

Ion makes a vcr2pc which is a VCR that plugs into the USB port.... The software is so so... If it did what it advertized it would be phenominal... but on the laptop at my mothers I hooked it up and I give the software a c +. I find it works well if you use their software to capture into mpg files and then the AVS stuff to make the DVDs.

Uh ignore MOTC if you don't want the extra step of losing resolution. Actually that is a cheaper way to go, but does risk dropping resolution. If your VCR has an S-video cable as does your camera go with that over the RCA cable for the video.

uh..ignore them both and pay the guy the $20, it is well worth the price.

Dee...lol!

Thanks so much, gentlemen...I'll try the cable thing tonight!! I have boxes and boxes of VHS video tapes just begging to be edited...! We were totally the geeks in the early 90s that carted around a kid on one shoulder and a monster video camera on the other!

Ruth, a friend of mind described this process to me the same way MOTC did. If you do this yourself and figure it out, would you please make a how-to video about it? I have a handful of VHS tapes I'd like to do this with. Twenty bucks a pop for DVD conversion is reasonable, unless you've got five!

Uh just ignore master of the control because he is an ignorant slut. I mean look what you can get out of analog (which I would think he would like as it shares the first 4 letters with is condition):
look here

instead of this old original copy that could have been overlooked as just an analog recording:

Oops you were not supposed to see that. Oh great, now I have to go underground again before they send the CIA assassins.
