K, it's true, if you contribute to a campaign, the candidate will harass you by e-mail (even after they win) and make you feel all connected and shit to keep the cash river flowin'.
I have to admit, though, it's kind of funny to think we live in a time where you can wake to find an email from your President, which is why I never tag it as spam...it makes me smile.
So here's the Prez' public response to his winning the Nobel… Continue

I'm addicted to my RSS feed.
Every morning, while sippin' the joe, I click through the titles and hit a few that sound like they promise something of interest, mostly having to do with local stuff, education, technology, social media, or the humanities in general.
So I decided this morning, out of curiosity to see what it might look like, to keep a blog edit open and just type in the random stuff I find. Of course, it's always fun to get feedback, too.

So I'm a teacher in one of the largest school districts in the nation. Yesterday I get an e-mail from my principal addressed to the entire staff. It says:
There has been some controversy about whether students will be required to view President Obama’s September 8 address.
It goes on to state how principals throughout the district have been advised by the superintendent to abide by parents' wishes to have their children be released from any viewing of the address, which… Continue

This TED Talk is going to change my teaching practice.
This guy (Dan Pink) argues that there's more potential to our creative energy when the motivated by a sense of altruism as opposed to cash incentives. If this is true, then there are some big-ass cracks in the pillars of Capitalism and economic theory.
Regardless, it definitely has implications for my classroom and how I structure my program. It validates "service-learning" projects where students are involved in… Continue

There is glitch-y-ness on the recent postings.
Apparently it says some folks dropped messages on Doug's page (c'mon, we all know he's not that popular) when in fact, that is not the case.
Ning is looking into it.

The two "Two-Minute Philosopher" videos I put up a few weeks ago were well-received here and at a couple of other sites, so I'm planning on taping the rest of them this week and continuing with the series starting this coming Friday night.
I have some great questions on a list I've been generating, but if anyone has any suggestions, you can place them here so I get them before I finish up the first batch (I'll do about a dozen so we… Continue

I'm RSS-subbed to a blog called WorldMegan
. Megan is the most upbeat go-getter I've ever encountered on these here Internets; her writing is fresh, interesting, and inspiring. She's only in her late 20's but her words and, most importantly, her actions belie her years. It's the life I've noticed she lives that makes the strongest argument for me to keep myself tuned to Megan's frequency.
I found her… Continue

I'm not a planner. Summer arrives and I find myself filling the time off from school with professional development opportunities. Last summer, for the first time, I planned nothing and decided to have the summer to myself but that just went nowhere because I wound up with a lot of unstructured time and that meant very little focus on anything productive or even FUN!
So this time, I'm not only taking those summer months to focus on the… Continue

Well, I'm sick in bed- been sleepin' for the most part for the last couple of days and I've got the kind of headache that pretty much makes me want to end it all right this minute (just kidding- don't call 911).
So for the first time EVAH, the Sunday PSA comes to you via blog.
And it's the perfect week for this to happen because as it turns out there's really nothing to report, except that Doug will begin editing the Loser vid this week, so… Continue
