Chig - I can't thank you enough for the N95Filter mask. I could not get one for months and was anticipating all of this since before people Knew (december). Talking to you finally gave me the incentive to TRY to make an alternate mask on Wed night. I have exposed shredded edges - but the pleats worked and I used dunkin donuts coffee bag bendable ties over the noses to really give a seal. The mas you sent is PERFECT and will be a Template for me to try to perhaps try to make some for family.
i had fun for the first time in a while. might have broken my stoneface ...smiling again and now it feels pretty good. while shooting this my devious mind went places- so i sat up all night clipping together something i hope does something for someone else. comin' up... thank you again.

NICE gift! I have two N95 masks that I bought last fall in anticipation of the wildfires. I use a regular face mask for walking the dog, and reserve the N95 for my rare supermarket trips, where I have less control over people invading the 6-foot zone.
Chig, I know the N95 masks are meant for one-time use, but do you have any knowledge about how many times they can be worn and still work effectively?

NJ- was the NICEST gift I've received ..nothing compares to a life preserving gift. most people would not believe, but we really do NOT get anything but a regular surgical mask at work. For the first 2 months we were prohibited to use anything we acquired from home, but that changed mid April for me. Now Bruce's masks are welcome where I work..thank the universe.
I hope Bruce has some advice for you.
stay safe, stay home for those who can't and glad you have N95 ..try to make yourself a faceshield or wear ANOTHER disposable or washable layer Over the N95 to extend the life of the mask. .... Love D

I've thought about making some kind of face shield and maybe I will. The advice to wear another washable mask over the N95 makes sense and I've heard it elsewhere as well, so I think I'll do that the next time I have to buy food.
By the way, I heard a story on NPR about research that shows that a layer of nylon, such as from a pair of pantyhose or tights, greatly adds to the efficacy of a face mask. I have an old pair of tights and I think I might try it, much as I hate sewing.
