When I had my career as a photographer, about 18 years were as chief photojournalist at a Jesuit university. Many times I heard alumni speaking about what the best thing they got from their education at that school: "I learned to think." Same comment often made regarding specific professors: "He/She taught me to think." Perhaps it's tragic that it takes many students that long to learn to think, but in my opinion that is high praise of an institution or an individual. The religious teachings of the university were decidedly weighted in Christian beliefs, but towards the latter part of my stay, a Judaic studies department was added, a positive sign of diversity I felt. Still a lot to be done.
