Ryoanji Quilt Day 9 Batting and the 3-Pole Frame

For my grandmother, making quilts was a productive way to put rags, flour sacks, and scraps of clothing back into good use, like making stew out of leftovers. She used to use worn-out cotton or wool blankets for her batting. Never gave it any thought before, but that must have been very difficult for her to sew through.

yes, blankets were often used as batting.  Don't know how they could do it . . .
