The Ark

Whatever floats your boat...

I have been tracing my grandmother's history for my family. I have discovered that many of her daily movements and the sights she saw are echoed in my own daily life, 95 years later.

@ Ruth, Marie, and Pyper: Thank you, dears. I was planning to make a DVD just for my family, of sites that would have been a part of my grandmother's daily or weekly life, and I thought some of it fit into the 30-second concept pretty well. There are a couple more to come.

That's pretty cool!  It's like an object that creates a time bridge between you and your grandmother.  Most people hold onto objects that belonged to those who've died, but this is something that allows you to walk in her shoes for a few seconds every day, seeing what she saw.

:o)  I have some cool footage of taking my grandma through Little Italy where she grew up, but I took her there on Google Earth's "street view".  It, of course, wasn't like the real thing, but what a trip for her to be recognizing everything!

@ Syd: What a treasure to have that! I'd give anything to have some video or film footage of my grandmother now. Once upon a time we had some audio tapes of her voice, but I don't know if they still exist. I would LOVE it if you would share that bit with your grandma on the Ark. And don't let it get lost. Tommy and all of his cousins are going to treasure it someday more than they can ever guess at now.

I'll see if I can dig it up right now...
