I appreciate how you are trying to clear up misunderstandings, Syd - something that Sara's neighbor (the dad) obviously has no clue how to do.

lol- it wasn't you, Sara. It's me just checkin' and makin' sure I'm breaking old habits.

"The look in their eyes when they internalize the bad they learn humans are capable of, breaks my heart..." I know that look.

You want them to gain knowledge about the world but their innocence seems to have to pay the price.

Part of the joy of parenting, I noticed, was seeing the world through Tommy's new eyes. What a gift it was (and always will be). But then stuff happens and you have to be honest with them without being brutal, and there it goes- slowly...the shine of all things, and in comes precaution and concern for random things and people and actions we have no control over.

*sigh* That feeling we get watching them sleep...that's such a peaceful feeling for us probably because it's one of the few times we know for sure they're safe within our loving gaze and also (maybe) because we know they're off in their dreams, a landscape that belongs only to the innocent (a place we wish we could find again).

Syd, your last comment made me shed a tear. That was beautiful, and so true.
