Mikey Nichols -HS League Player broke his neck Saturday-Spine Safety reminder

He's been in our hockey family since he was little. http://highschoolsports.nj.com/news/article/6370652073451133369/ice-hockey-overwhelming-community-support-for-monroes-mike-nichols/#/0 There we were standing right next to his dad while his mom was with Mikey at another rink. We teach proper technique but on ice, you can lose your edge suddenly. Cervical, spinal and head injury plague all sports. When your head is down, your vertebrae line up Straight, so a blow compresses them into each other. when he neck is straight your spine is curved and the spinous processes are in position to absorb the impact with movement. We Teach and drill - "head up, don't duck'. I'm all for the ORANGE line and strict penalties for hitting in that zone but change is slow. The family has a giveforward to help with medical costs. The league, rinks and even pros are making efforts to raise money and teach prevention. https://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/xfr3/-prayformikey

We've sold Tees, bracelets and stickers of which everyone seems to have at least one of each.  Last fundraiser was Monday and someone got some Rangers to autograp....  It was pretty cool that even kids in my school were spreading the word at school and on Facebook to make sure everyone who could, was going to this event. There were so many activities , it was amazing how many organizations came together from the entire county for one family.  I was so pleased when the kids at school started asking if people were going, my town is several towns away from Monroe.
