At low tide!! There are crossing times posted on at either end of the causeway and on Northumberland Council's website...so no excuses for getting caught out, you would think. However the Lifeboat and air-sea rescue are kept pretty busy at the beginning of the tourist season 'cos people still get it wrong. It takes about 2 hours to cross on foot.
