The Foster Chronicles: Mister's First Day

Saturday, July 23, 2011. I made a 200-mile round trip to retrieve my latest foster dog, a ten-year-old sheltie who'd been seized from a backyard breeder. He has never lived indoors, is not house-trained, and does not know his name. And he does not trust people.

Lots o' work ahead.

Time, patience, acceptance, and love...

Wee Kitty came to us very abused and terrified. Nothing sadder than seeing a 22lb cat trying to efface himself off the earth, crawling on his belly from hiding place to hiding place. The hardest thing was letting him be to explore the house and us at his own pace. Today, you'd never know he was the came cat. *grin*

Mister will make the transition, I can see it. He is so sweet...

I would never have guess that about Wee Kitty. He looks like such a confident, easy-going guy. I'm glad you were his new start on life.

My men get the credit. After 3 years now, he is still not 100% comfortable with me... his abuser was a woman. My husband and sons have been brilliant with Wee Kitty and he has complete trust in them. He is a man's cat. Follows the youngest around when ever he is home, throws himself against the eldest for rub, and likes cuddling up with my husband when he goes to bed (and smugly looks over at me as if to say 'see, he's mine'). *chuckles* I should take a picture - it's hysterical.

I get to be the disciplinarian. Pfft! Wee Kitty feels free to let the men know emphatically when he doesn't like something. Not with me though - yet. Although he did hiss at me the other day... That's a good sign! So I get to take him to the vet, sick him off the table or counter, put him in the cage to travel to the cottage, make him come inside, cut out the fur balls, etc... LOL But I am the one he comes to when he is scared, mother/female; hence the great protector... *rolls eyes*

Mister is a beautiful guy, inside and out. His lovely personality is all there in his eyes.... he just needs to find his inner dog. And he will with time and your guidance. *grin*

I've tried vlogging about Wee Kitties journey, but I still can't...
