The neighbor from the Black Lagoon.

How many of you have neighbors who make Eva Braun look like Sister Theresa's kinder sibling? Well, we are the lucky winners of such a neighbor! The first sign was when my Mother made her some delicious home made food and brought it over to her. (We live in a high-rise condo building and our door is next to this woman's). We had just moved here and my Mom thought it was a nice gesture. The woman yelled at my Mother that she had company and sent her away! Later, her son, who was visiting her and… Continue

Write or wrong?

It's no fun reading about people's pain. Contrary to the belief of some, it's even LESS fun writing about ones' own pain. If anyone thinks I, or most people, would rather get attention from their pain than from ANY other human attribute, that person needs far more help than I do. Also, I am not apologizing for anything I write about. If someone doesn't like it, no one's forcing them to read it.

As far as what I achieve, even flat on my back, I have elicited the help of a Senator, who… Continue

One day..

..after I wrote to President Obama to remind him about his promise for more funding

for stem cell research, I wake up to: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=6714423&page=1

"FDA APPROVES STEM CELL STUDY FOR SPINAL INJURIES"

I thought I was dreaming. You see..I have a spinal cord injury, (dx'd as Transverse Myelitis, without going into great detail). I haven't had a day without pain and numbness since 1988, that's 20+ years. I still may not live to see a treatment come… Continue

Too soon?

I bookmarked 'Whitehouse.gov' in my browser yesterday. Wondering if it's too soon to start writing to our new leader with requests. In particular, a LOT more money for stem-cell research, which I believe he promised during his campaign. No time like the present..

When do you stop trying?

My Mom collapsed again today. She is doing 'ok' now. Paramedics checked her out,

she didn't want to go to the ER. Luckily she didn't hurt herself when she fell. I feel

horrible because I couldn't get to her this time. Because of my mobility issues,

all I could do is call 911. I also called two of my Mother's sisters who live nearby,

one of whom just called to berate me for allowing this to happen. I guess I don't

feel bad enough already as far as she's concerned.

I… Continue

I can't let go.

New Year's. Time for resolutions. Time to ring in the new, let go of the past. But there's one thing I can't seem to let go of. Exactly nine years ago this week, I had to quit the job I loved, the job I had for over 18 years, and go on permanent disability. This was a decision I did not make lightly or easily. In fact, I worked in pain for the last 12 years of my job, until I couldn't anymore. I was the photojournalist for a university. I had been educated in photography, paid my dues doing… Continue

JFK, 45 years on.

45 years ago today, JFK was assassinated. I was a kid in school when we

found out. I remember it like it just happened though. The first thought

I had was that the Russians were going to bomb us. A little girl in class started crying. They sent us home early. I went to my room and threw my school books on my bed angrily. The next few days we all watched events unfold on tv. LBJ taking the oath on the plane with Jackie Kennedy next to him, Oswald being shot by Jack Ruby. It was a… Continue
