I was four years old our first night out in Saudi.
We were walking down the streets of Al Khobar at night. I could not comprehend that we were in a foreign country, and I did not realize that the sea of Saudi, Pakistani, Philippino, and Yemeni men who crowded the streets were any different than at home. All I could figure was that we were at the county fair which made me anxious to see the rides and have a corn dog.
My mother bought a shish-kebob from a street vendor and…

I was raised in the Middle East. We traveled in summer.
We began and ended each summer in London.
My mother raised us with what she refers to as the "Socratic method". That is, she taught us by asking questions.
(She now regrets this method as she managed to raise two know-it-all-assholes who think their mother is stupid)
We were in Heathrow airport. my brother was 12 years old and I was 10. We were terrible, fighting with each other and giving her hell. We…

This morning my goal was to call the vet at 8' o clock.
Mr. Flophouse rose early.
She made her way to his chair at the kitchen table, labored breath, wobbley.
He patted her head and she made her way back to her bed- a tremendous effort.

My brother is an accomplished Jazz musician.
His life is interesting.
I like musicians because they have to get around and work together.
Visual Artists (like me) are more or less domestic and don't have to play well with others.
I helped him move out of his apartment last week..I didn't take the TV or Microwave and a few other things because he said a needy friend was going to come by to get them.
I called my brother yesterday to ask how the rest of the move…

My first dog was a desert bred saluki pup who was abandoned by the pack.
We called him a saluki (as we called all feral desert dogs) but in hindsight he must have been a cross between a saluki and a Canaan dog. He had the sight hound body and hound ears. But he was much sturdier and his coat was flashy black and white.
Dad named him Spot.
It was rare to have a dog in Saudi. Salukis were the only acceptable breed. Dogs were not allowed to be shipped into the country…

So LV is gone. We knew it was coming. We discussed it. We prepared for it.
Syd created it and we joined it :-)
Geez, folks...I mean, it's not like someone died, right? We have this place and a number of others where our friends are!! Let's keep this in perspective--it's not an earthquake, hurricane, tsunami or terrorist attack.
It's a different link we click now.
I know, I know....LV was important. It served a purpose. It was a community. We were part…

Steve is member #100.
I was thinkin', when I built the ARK, that we'd get maybe thirty, forty people tops. We not only have a hundred members now, but we got almost that many responding to a survey, which means people are not only signing up, but tuning in!
So here's the deal...gonna open this place up for anyone who wants to put their bags down. That basically means I take back what I said about it being temporary. Because even if LV does come back (by some slim chance),…

Lately, I was BLOCKED/FILTERED to watch videos in LV, the reason: Our Local internet provider found LV to be lewd, too mature for their eyes, and dont know what else (only them knows) which I found so selfish and just plain bullsh*t! (sorry for cursing LOL). It made a big impact on me because you see i love to watch videos in LV, thats what I do when I have free time-watch, appreciate, comment, put hit votes, fave it and more of what you can do to a video. I was like down and out for days when…

I named him Doty; a country term he taught me for "Old, rotten wood".
He saved my life during adolescence by giving me a tyrannical reign over 40 acres of backwoods.
The move to the US was the worst time in my life.
Culture shock in a rural community - to date, the most painful time simply because I had no coping skills.
We built a cabin in the woods - it took us an entire Summer.
I announced to my mother that I had built a cabin with a 63 year old man near the…

Yup it does. The hospital doesn't want me, and this baby is just too damn comfortable. I'm also running out of ideas as to help progress this along! If I haven't had this kid by Wednesday, I guess I'm to get help from the hospital on Thursday, or at least that's the rumor.

Dan- just wanted to say KUDOS to you for a great job as host of CollectiveSoul.
You were the longest host EVAH, and while the behind-the-scenes story may never be told (picture Chig and Syd tackling him and trying to wrestle the keys from his cold, tight grip...but to no avail), you had the misfortune of uploading your collab at the very start of LV's slowdown.
So, for that reason, I'm embedding it here for the enjoyment of ARKians whilst we visit here at our…

I posted this elsewhere. But here it is.
I am in awe of the people who got out and voted, showing their power in America, and seeing that power translate into something the whole world hoped for.
I fear for Obama and his family, because we have plenty of armed idiots in this country that get crazy ideas.
I want him given a fair chance to make a mark on this country - to bring back what we can be.
I look forward to not being hit over the head with…

Went to the doctors AGAIN today. The results from my blood test shows that I'm anemic, which I don't know why they didn't catch sooner since I was with TheChosenOne when I was pregnant with her. On the upside, they found that I'm 1cm dilated. Not that huge I know, but it's a better place to be in than the one I was in Monday. They scraped the membranes today in hopes to help further thin and open the cervix. I've been feeling a little crampy since then, so I'm hoping it helps. I go in for a NST…

I'm not sure how to embed a video from there, but I stumbled upon this. (See below, Syd is awesome and did it for me!)
These are some of the children I worked with! I miss them so much!
Those that are talking are students that I got to work with as well when they were taking the course. Some of them are even working in the field now and having kids of their own.
Despite how the government is dealing with…

I voted first thing yesterday morning. I always vote. The first thing I did when I moved to California was register to vote. I love jury duty, too. I'm weird that way :-)
After I voted, as I was walking to my car, for the first time I felt that I had accomplished something in that booth. I felt like I was voting for something that really mattered.
And last night, as David and Zach and I were watching the news, it was just so very exciting! Watching my 13-year old son get…

No cervix action. Boo! Not only did I not get news that I wanted, I've got yet more news that makes me go 'hmm'. For example, it actually hurt when they checked, I lost two pounds and my blood pressure went border line again. THEN they send me for 14 blood tests 'just to air on the side of caution' they say. I want to know what the heck is going on. Guess I find out when I go to the doctors again on Thursday or Friday. I'm to go Thursday, but that is my little one's early release day and there…

I've been very tired the last couple of days. Getting up is hard when laying down, the lower back complains whenever I move and I waddle to get from point A to point B. I'm feeling very 'done' by this point, but aparently the little one isn't quite there yet!
Today is the proposed birth day of my little bundle of joy, but as of yet this baby has yet to even drop! Last week when I went in for what I was hoping would be my last prenadal doctors apointment my cervix hadn't even begun to…

Hey you guys...I hate to say this, but according to someone in contact with LV staff, it appears that MOTC was right, they're switching data over to other servers, but not to upgrade or maintain...they're doing it to consolidate their dwindling resources.
The person I spoke to projects that LV has a couple of more months left in it and that'll be it.
As dismal as that sounds, it's still a projection made by someone inside the business and he could still be wrong. I just…
