Got an old guitar from one of our son's friends who lived with us for about a year. He bought it as an old Gibson but was told it was a copy and the case was probably worth more than the guitar. I played around with it for a while filing the frets that were buzzing and got I to where it was playing pretty well. The last two months I've been busy doing a rebuild of our bathroom and enlarging our bedroom closet to walk in size and have about finished that up, so I decided to do some research and find out what kind of a guitar it actually was. After looking at all kinds of old guitars on eBay I finally discovered that it was a 1935 or 1936 Gibson L-30. They made that guitar as an economical arch-top guitar for the masses.... 30 dollars brand new! The first two years 35 and 36 they were only came in black to help reduce the production costs. From 37 to early forties the went to a sunburst finish and the were discontinued. Some one had electrified this old guitar so it was not as original so I decided to change it all together. Check it out!

It looks really nice. There's something about holding an instrument you know other people have used as a vessel for expression. maybe it will infuse it's powers into your fingertips and you will create something beautiful!  good share Willie. There's a level of pride you get from putting so much work and care into a project. you done good , son.

The history is impossible to know but it's fun to ponder! I've been learning a lot about the early arch tops!

What gorgeous wood. I know I wouldn't have had the patience or desired to put in the work to uncover all that beauty, so I commend you. I'm glad it turned out to be a genuine Gibson, but even if it was a copy, if it's a beautiful sounding instrument, why does it matter? I think every guitar has a soul. Which is more than I can say for a lot of human beings.

Holy Mackerel that's purdy. I bet the guy who told him it was a copy wanted it. Bad. ^ Agree with NJ and TG.

BalancheNoE that's what I thought! The kid that I got it from lived with us rent free for over a year, so at least I got something! Still trying to find the Kay Thin Twin pickup that it was cut for in 1957. This guitar does have a lot of soul NJ!
